Apparently I have a thing for media that tries to address urban inequity, homelessness and mental health because between this and Joe Wright's The Soloist (2009), I am far more favorable a viewer than most. I get that there are flaws, but they seem relatively trite to all the bold swings I think are pulled off here. Eric is awfully bleak, and even with an ending that satisfies all of its many plot threads, I found the final of its 6 episodes to be the most depressing. It's also at the end of the series that the symbolism supersedes the literal storytelling, but I didn't mind. There's probably something to be said about how some accuse Eric of being too short & filled with ideas while others claim it's too drawn out and repetitive. Some do it in the same breath. Maybe another episode or two might have curtailed some of its more coincidental turns while a leaner run might have forced out some of its themes to streamline its social conscience. I don't know. I think it gets a lot right, and I think there's enough meaning to be mined from all it presents. I'm bummed folks don't seem to give it a second glance.

I came across this study and created this video several months ago while writing a paper unrelated to politics, but I’m circling back around to reshare this concept with politics in mind because it is so incredibly relevant right now.

Caught this at the local underground theater on a Monday with a crowd of maybe two dozen. This movie demands to be seen with jovial company. I had a blast. I could criticize the occasional moment that tried my patience or made my eyes roll, but there was always an insane moment of hilarity in the next moment that made me forget.

Consistency is louder than confidence.

How can a caricature of such professed creative endowment -- proven, in my opinion, by his music and fashion, which I rather liked -- be so uninspired in the execution of his own 'Opus'? I'm afraid that a run of the mill slasher flick has more ingenuity in its bones than this. Also, how does a guy whose Wikipedia page is literally just 2 sentences get a director's chair with A24 and John Malkovich?

I listened back to the Cinematic Schematic podcast episode on this (hosted by 2 Oklahomies), and they compared this favorably to Longlegs, suggesting that while both films had a disappointing reveal, it worked better in Weapons. I actually prefer how Longlegs did it, tbh. And while we're comparing, I also think the child/parent dynamic and escalation into camp was better in Cobweb, but it seems folks panned Cobweb, if they saw it at all.

I am a Oura Ring user and have been for gosh probably 3 years now. I lost it back on January 23rd for the first time ever and my finger feels… naked. I will update you all when I find it, not because you care, but I simply will be rejoicing and shouting from the mountain tops!
