My first brush with Julio Torres as a figure in the comedy & narrative world, Problemista feels like a good place to start. I love a lot about this film. The way in which it processes city life as a Latino grappling with the hurdles of the U.S. immigration system is unreasonably whimsical. It doesn't juxtapose its tone the way many similar narratives handle serious subjects with fantasy. No, this is all the way in the clouds. Ultimately too simple & fairytale-like for me, but a charming watch.
