Impeccably made, superbly acted quasi-biographical period flick centering around tabletop tennis and the utterly narcissistic, manipulative, and desperate lengths its protagonist goes to satisfy his ego. I....did not like this character. I get that I'm not supposed to, exactly, but to put me through 150 minutes of close-ups from only his worldview, shallowing the other characters, you'd better have a reason. I've yet to find a good reason why this movie should exist. It is a hell of a ride, tho.
