A non-Disney original IP with no Lin-Manuel Miranda in sight? Somebody pinch me. I know I'm late to the party on this one (as always, it seems), but boy, this holds up now and will hold up well into the future. It's timestamped by music that will be nostalgic for Zoomers in a couple of decades, but it's also full of timeless themes written into layers of plot, song, and visuals that will be unveiled with future viewings when these kids mature and share it with their kids. If we as a species make it another 20 years, of course. But that's my doomerism peeking through, none of which did I stumble across while being swept up in this briskly storyboarded wonder from a team that Sony didn't seem to believe much in when they dumped it on Netflix. So glad the fans took it and ran with it. It's probably the only reason I got around to watching it finally, and when the sequel hits theaters eventually, I won't be missing the hype train next time.
