The NY Times gave this 4/4 stars. The reviewer had to have jumped through some hoops & qualifiers to get that because this is barely anything. If Plympton would have just made this a 30 minute short, it probably would have been fine, but he seems determined to go 5-minutes and under or full-on feature-length, no in-between. Based on interviews, I'm sure that's more of a practical, logistical move than a creative one, but boy. No amount of comparisons to Bukowski or Toulouse-Lautrec can justify this much narrative corner-cutting and lack of detail in a feature f***ing film. Reeeeally wish this was as great as it demands to be.
