Penelope (2006) ⭐ 6.7 | Comedy, Fantasy, Romance
So lets start this deep dive off with my favorite movie in the entire universe. Penelope, 2007. Directed by Mark Palansky. I simply cannot find a movie that even comes close to Penelope and how it makes me feel. My mom showed me this movie on VHS in 2007, I became obsessed. I loved everything about it. The directing, the story, the set design, the costume design, the cast, the soundtrack, the whole idea. It's just perfect. It captures my brain in physical form. I remember when I was a teenager, we had a tornado warning in my city. The tornado was right over us, and the ONE thing I grabbed, not my living, breathing, human sister, or my dogs, I grabbed my VHS copy of Penelope. Am I proud of that one? I don't know yet. I've been having that debate for the last 18 years. I can quote the entire movie from start to finish, I can act out every scene in its entirety, I have created and researched every possible detail about the movie and script. It has become my one hyper-fixation I can't escape from. I mean, it's BEAUTIFUL. To the point where we're naming our next born daughter Penelope. When I was in my early twenties, the year I met Jason, WAY before we started dating, he told me he thought Penelope looked better with her pig nose. I had a lot to unpack there. 1. I have not met another human who has watched Penelope. 2. He had the same opinion as ME?! About her PIG NOSE? 3. I fell in love, hard. 4. Years later, we get married. Life is crazy. Penelope is best served on a rainy day or snowy day. You must have coffee/tea, & some baked goods. I think a small hobby such as drawing or knitting to do while the comforting movie plays is crucial. It's perfect. Please watch it, leave a review. Let's talk about it! I NEED to talk about it hahaha!

Push (2009 film) - Wikipedia
Here's another freakishly GREEN 2000s movie. The concept is dystopian but modern, and oddly warm & welcoming. Very...comforting. Even with all the violence and gunfights, it's a GREAT watch for a rainy day. Dakota Fanning was a BABY in this, along with co-stars Chris Evans & Camilla Belle, it's a match made in film heaven. The chemistry is FANTASTIC. Not to mention the soundtrack is a chefs french kiss. Rotten Tomatoes gave it a fucking 23%, 1 star review. I'm actually baffled. Its SO good. Give it a watch. Let's start a movie club...like a book club but for movies....

If you've ever wanted a film that is FULL metaphor, you've found it. I won't give much away... let's just say I'm terrified. But so damn intrigued.
